How to trademark a business name: search the registers yourself
Trademarks are searched by you or by a lawyer. The report links to USPTO, TMview and UK IPO so you can search each register yourself. The check is a review of public sources, not legal advice. Before you file or launch, check trademarks yourself or with a lawyer.
What a missed trademark cost Linko
In 2014 the start-up Linko received a cease-and-desist letter from Linko Data Systems, a US company.
Linko's own name search had missed this company. It had filed a trademark in the classes Linko was about to launch in. Finding the new name, Inbot, took over a month.
Source: guest post by Olga Steidl of Inbot, the company concerned, on tech.eu, 27 October 2014.
